Reading Parish

Rev Bobby Karanja Ndungu
PCEA Reading. For several years, the congregation in London had a connection with some families in Reading who sometimes would come to London for worship. Rev Kibathi had also established a relationship with St Andrews United Reformed church through some members of PCEA in Reading who were worshiping there. In 2019, following a request by several families at Reading and surrounding areas, it was decided that permission be granted for a worship station to start at Reading. On 4th September 2019, the first worship service was held. The Minister Rev Kibathi accompanied by his wife Anne, Rev Paul Irad and Rev John Ngure and several other leaders from London went to Reading to launch the church. The service which included Holy communion was held at St Peter’s Church Hall located at RG6 1EY Reading. After the service, it was decided that the service will continue at the same place once a month till a suitable space was found where weekly services can take place. Mr Peter Mukabi accepted to team up with Rev Irad in making the necessary arrangements and coordination. In March 2020 just as we were about to start the weekly worship service, the Covid 19 lockdown came and there was no physical meeting for over one year. However the members continued to join the other branches for worship on zoom. It was during the lockdown when Mr Mukabi was ordained as an Elder and was joined by Elder Mary Wanjama who had served as an Elder in Kenya.
On 13th June 2021, we held our first weekly service at Emmanuel Church, in Early, Reading. The Moderator Pastor Edwin Kibathi came with some few members from London congregation came to dedicate the premises to be holding our weekly services.
The regular services continued to be held at Emmanuel church until 31st Dec.2023 when the Moderator and the session decided to relocate the church to make it more accessible ,by public transport The church relocated to our new premises at St Georges Road in West Reading.
There was a significant growth of the Church at Emmanuel Church site and we are expecting the growth to continue even faster at the new site because it is more accessible by public means of transport and it is nearer the Town Centre.
